The AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF PHNOM PENH (AUPP) and its CENTER FOR LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CLPD) is Cambodia’s first International Aviation Training Association (IATA) Accredited Training School (ATS). ATS status allows Dangerous Goods Regulation training to occur here in Cambodia.
Dr. Alan Wark, Executive Director of the CLPD said, “Achieving IATA ATS status was possible through mutual cooperation and support from IATA and the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).” SSCA and CLPD have a shared vision to make international aviation training available here in Cambodia. Before, airlines and cargo operators would have to send their personnel to Singapore or Thailand for dangerous goods initial or recurrent training. This resulted in higher cost and increase travel for Cambodian based airline operators. The ATS at AUPP provides greater access to international level aviation training at a substantial cost savings to Cambodian air industries.
Dangerous Goods (DG) are any articles or substances which are capable of posing a significant risk to health, safety, or property when they are transported by air. To achieve ATS status, CLPD had to meet international training standards from both IATA and Cambodia’s SSCA. These standards included having the most current international dangerous goods training materials. Plus, dangerous goods trainers must hold active IATA and SSCA training certificates.
CLPD at AUPP is Cambodia’s only approved aviation training site. CLPD is an IATA Aviation Training Center (ATC), which provides IATA certification training for Cabin Crew here in Cambodia. CLPD facilities include an A320 door trainer, simulated smoke environment room, aviation medical center, aviation fire trainer and emergency evacuation slide trainer.
In addition to aviation training, AUPP’s CLPD is a corporate training center offering world-class learning and human resource solutions to employers and individuals using AUPP’s international faculty and other qualified staff. Their mission is to develop people who can use their potential and develop their skills in order to grow their careers and boost their organizations.
